More than 130 years ago, the story of Pawleys Island Hammocks began in the Carolina Low Country. River boat captain Joshua John Ward simply wanted a good night's sleep during the sultry summers, so he set out with some rope, wood, gumption, and grit to fashion what would become the basis for our company - the hand-woven rope hammock with two wooden spreader bars and a clew knot with a ring for hanging.

Our proprietary DuraCord rope blends the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester, resulting in an all-weather, solution-dyed synthetic that is resistant to rot, mold, and mildew. At 85 ft./lb., it is the densest rope on the hammock market, leading to less stretching and increased support. The oak spreader bars, hand-dipped in honey-gold marine-grade varnish, are naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation, offering exceptional strength and handsome appearance.
Featuring our unique Double-Latch Weave technique, where individual ropes pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, our hammocks eliminate the need for knots within the rope bed. We plate all our hanging hardware with zinc to prevent rust and ensure longer outdoor life, and our one-piece ring-knot and chain are the product of years of development, permanently attaching the chain to the O-ring for durability.
Our hammocks are handcrafted in the Carolinas using the finest parts and leading techniques, with cotton/DuraCord rope woven by hand using 100% natural yarns and precision twisting and balancing. The result is a slice of that relaxed, coastal lifestyle, brought right to your own backyard.
